Forecast Discussion: Friday, August 26th – Fire activity and smoke emissions from area fires have been greatly reduced, but changing wind directions will mean more of the wildfire smoke is expected impact our air quality. Winds should transition to westerly this afternoon before becoming mostly south and southwesterly by Saturday. By Saturday afternoon the winds are forecast to become breezy and gusting again, as another dry cold front begins to impact our area, bringing the potential for episodes of blowing dust (PM-10) and additional smoke impacts (PM-2.5). The wind will be somewhat lighter on Sunday and Monday. While air quality should be in the AQI-Moderate range or better most of the time, due to increased wildfire smoke impacts tonight combined with the windy conditions on Saturday, it is possible that higher levels of fine particulate (PM-2.5) could send air quality into the AQI-Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range Friday night and Saturday, before improving to the AQI-Moderate range on Sunday and Monday. /MCKAY
