Forecast Discussion: Thursday, September 21: An upper-level ridge of high pressure will build over Ohio, reducing mixing in the atmosphere. Furthermore, light and variable winds will limit pollutant dispersion, and mostly sunny, warm conditions will enhance ozone production. These conditions will lead to Moderate AQI levels. Friday, September 22: Calm to light winds will reduce pollutant dispersion, and fog and mist during the morning hours will enhance particle production in the Youngstown area. In addition, sunny skies and warm temperatures will support ozone formation. As a result, AQI levels will remain Moderate. Saturday through Tuesday, the upper-level ridge will strengthen over Ohio, limiting mixing and producing mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-80s. These conditions will support ground-level ozone formation. However, light northerly to northeasterly winds will aid pollutant dispersion in the Mahoning Valley each day. Therefore, AQI levels will be Moderate on all four days.
