Forecast Discussion: Air quality forecast northern Indiana issued Wednesday, July 27, 2016 for Wednesday and Thursday, July 27 and 28. Air Quality Action Day (AQAD) for Wednesday, July 27 for northwest Indiana for ozone. The AQAD includes the counties of Lake, Porter, and LaPorte and the cities of Gary, Hammond, Valparaiso, LaPorte and Michigan City. Light wind speeds will produce a lake breeze Wednesday afternoon along the Lake Michigan shoreline in northwest Indiana recirculating ozone precursors and ozone. Otherwise, expect mostly sunny conditions and high temperatures in the middle to upper 80s on Wednesday. Expect moderate air quality for the north central and the northeast Indiana regions for Wednesday and for all of northern Indiana on Thursday. Increasing cloudiness on Thursday will produce some showers/thundershowers across northern Indiana as a weak cold front moves southward from Wisconsin and Illinois and a middle/upper level trough approaches from the west. The next air quality forecast update will be on Thursday. Air quality forecast provided by IDEM, Office of Air Quality.
