Forecast Discussion: Ground level ozone has trended towards GREEN through much of the state on this mostly sunny Saturday afternoon, but an area of YELLOW is likely in York County. High pressure will build across the Carolinas on Sunday. Temperatures will warm into the 90s again during the afternoon hours with thunderstorm activity limited to the immediate coast. The surface trough will remain along the Coastal Plain but will likely wash out during the afternoon hours on Sunday. A rather light northeast wind will shift more southeasterly during the day Sunday, but winds will remain very light throughout the day at all inland areas. With an increase of traffic expected at these inland locations due to the upcoming solar eclipse on Monday, mobile source emission levels and ozone production will likely be much greater than a typical Sunday. Given this increase in emissions and light winds with ample sinking motion in the atmosphere, the inland western zones will likely peak CODE YELLOW on Sunday, while Pee Dee and Trident remain in the GREEN category.
