Forecast Discussion: Despite a backdoor frontal boundary approaching the Triad from the north, skies have remained relatively sunny through much of the day to warrant low Code YELLOW air quality levels. The aforementioned boundary is expected to stall north of the Triad this evening and retreat northward Thursday as southwesterly winds gradually pick up ahead of an advancing cold front from the west. The development of clouds and associated precipitation should hold off long enough tomorrow to allow ozone and particle pollution levels to remain in the low to middle Code YELLOW range. The cold front sweeps through the Triad overnight, generating scattered showers across the area and dropping air quality levels to Code GREEN. Drier weather and light winds on tap for Saturday may help elevate ozone levels into the lower Code YELLOW range, especially as temperatures gradually warm up in the afternoon. (Payne)
