Forecast Discussion: Current conditions: At 2 p.m. EDT this Thursday afternoon, high pressure is sliding off to the south and east of the region. Very dry air present is inhibiting the formation of fine particulate, and all areas are in the good range with this pollutant. Warmer air will make a comeback into the region for the day Friday, and remain with us through the weekend. Not as cold tonight with clouds increasing. Low temperatures will remain in the middle to upper 30s. *** Friday's forecast: A warm front will pass through the area Friday morning, and behind it, winds will shift into the southwest and bring warmer air in. Afternoon temperatures will rise into the middle 60s, and higher surface relative humidity will bring increases in fine particulate, perhaps to the moderate range in some locations. Mostly cloudy and mild Friday night with lows near 50 degrees. *** Extended forecast: Mild, but unsettled weather will prevail across the area over the weekend into early next week as a couple of areas of low pressure coming out of the Midwest affect the weather. Clouds for the most part Saturday and mild with showers and a thunderstorm possible. Sunday will bring variable cloudiness, and showers and a thunderstorm are again a possibility, especially in the afternoon and evening. Fine particulate levels will be in the moderate range most of the time Saturday into Sunday. Clouds continue on Monday with a shower possible, then a stronger low pressure area with an associated cold front will bring showers and another thunderstorm for the day Tuesday. Turning cooler by the middle of next week with improving air quality as drier air finally makes inroads into the region.---McAuliffe
