Forecast Discussion: FORECAST SUMMARY: Monday, August 31st, 2015 through Tuesday, September 1st, 2015 Ozone: 8-hour Ozone is expected to be mostly Moderate; with a slight chance for an isolated USG reading. PM-2.5: 24-hour Fine Particulate concentrations will be mostly Moderate. FORECAST DISCUSSION: High pressure and upper level ridging will be the dominating weather features this week. Fog development over the next couple of mornings will burn off to produce mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will feel “summer-like” as we end August and start the month of September; highs will be well into the 80s with increased humidity levels. Surface and upper level winds will be light but from a south/southwesterly direction. Aside from a very small chance for afternoon pop-up storms the next few days, weather conditions the will be conducive for increased pollution levels. Fine particulate is already in the Moderate range at several locations and readings are expected to stay Moderate. Ozone is a little trickier. The cooler conditions this past weekend has kept ozone low; therefore, we currently have a low background in place. I do expect ozone to increase today, and again tomorrow. Levels will get into the Moderate range at most locations and I do have a small concern that a monitor or two could reach USG Tuesday either right along the west Michigan lakeshore or downwind of the Detroit area. However, at this time I do feel this would be an isolated event so I will not be issuing an Action Day for Tuesday. Weather conditions do not chance much as we move into Wednesday. Since the threat for increased pollutions will linger through much of the week, we will be having another regional forecast call Tuesday morning to discuss expected pollutions levels for mid-week. EXTENDED FORECAST: Forecast models are now showing a disturbance, weak front, possibly pushing through on Thursday. If this pans out then we may have a break in increased pollution for one day. However, models are still forecasting a warm/muggy holiday weekend which will also mean a chance for increased pollution… Forecast updated by Stephanie Hengesbach: Monday, August 31st, 2015 Next forecast update: Tuesday, September 1st, 2015
