Forecast Discussion: FORECAST SUMMARY: Tuesday, September 1st, 2015 through Wednesday, September 2nd, 2015 Ozone: 8-hour Ozone is expected to be mostly Moderate; with a slight chance for an isolated USG reading. PM-2.5: 24-hour Fine Particulate concentrations will be mostly Moderate. FORECAST DISCUSSION: High pressure and upper level ridging continue to dominate into mid-week keeping warm, humid conditions in place. During Wednesday, a weak system will be dropping in from the northwest. Isolated afternoon storms are a possibility Tuesday with the warm, humid conditions in place but a better of a chance for storms comes in Wednesday. The Wednesday system still won’t be a sure bet for precipitation; however, and several locations will be dry the next two days. One thing is for sure, the warm surface and upper level temperatures remain in place. Fine particulate levels across the state are still running in the Moderate range and readings will remain Moderate. Ozone has been increasing, but Monday’s readings remained Good across the state. Concentrations will climb into the Moderate range Tuesday. There is some uncertainty of how high levels will get Wednesday. Ozone models do highlight areas right along the Lake Michigan shoreline, Muskegon south to Holland and South Haven, as reaching the USG range Wednesday. Historically, this model does a good job at showing areas of highest ozone levels, but, it over predicts how high concentrations will get. I would not be surprised if one monitor in the southwest corner of the state reached USG Wednesday, but this would not be a widespread event so I’m not issuing an Action Day. For Wednesday, I’m expecting mostly Moderate ozone levels across the state. Forecast models show a system moving in Thursday bringing with it clouds and small chances for precipitation. However, with so much uncertainty in the forecast models this week, we are having another regional forecast call tomorrow to see if weather conditions change where we feel high levels of pollution will linger into Thursday. EXTENDED FORECAST: Extended models are still forecasting a warm/muggy holiday weekend which will also mean a chance for increased pollution… Forecast updated by Stephanie Hengesbach: Tuesday, September 1st, 2015 Next forecast update: Wednesday, September 2nd, 2015
