Forecast Discussion: FIRE SAFETY BURN BANS OR RESTRICTIONS ARE IN EFFECT FOR MANY AREAS OF NORTH IDAHO. CONTACT YOUR LOCAL FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT PRIOR TO CONDUCTING ANY OUTDOOR OPEN BURNING. Smoke from wildfires in and around the western U.S. and Canada can move into the area and degrade air quality rapidly. Be aware of changing conditions to protect your health. Regional and local smoke from fires burning in southern Canada and the Cape Horn fire near Bayview are impacting the northern Panhandle. The current weather pattern will continue to funnel smoke through the northern reaches of the Purcell Trench into the Panhandle via a northerly wind. A weak front is moving south from Canada which will bring winds and a chance of thunder showers Tuesday evening. Air quality is likely to decrease due to the direction of the increased winds in areas north of I-90. Air quality is forecast to be in the MODERATE range for Pinehurst, Greater Sandpoint and St Maries while Kootenai County, and Bonners Ferry will be in the UNHEALTY FOR SENSITIVE POPULATIONS range for Wednesday.
