Forecast Discussion: Air quality forecast northwest and north central Indiana issued Tuesday, September 1, 2015 for Wednesday, September 2, 2015. Issuing an Air Quality Action Day (AQAD) for the northwest and the north central Indiana regions for Wednesday, September 2 for ozone. The AQAD includes the counties of Lake, Porter, LaPorte, St. Joseph, and Elkhart and the cities of Gary, Hammond, Ogden Dunes, Michigan City, LaPorte, South Bend and Elkhart. The surface wind direction becomes westerly transporting ozone precursors and ozone eastward from the south side of Chicago and northwest Indiana to the Ogden Dunes and Michigan City areas and eastward toward South Bend and Elkhart. Expect high temperatures in the upper 80s to 90 degrees on Wednesday with scattered clouds developing in the afternoon on Wednesday. Anticipating the AQAD to be a one-day event with more cloudiness by Thursday and wind direction from the north to northeast even though high temperatures will still be in the upper 80s on Thursday.
