Forecast Discussion: Wednesday, scattered thunderstorms will enhance atmospheric mixing and reduce ozone formation, especially over the southern portion of Louisiana. However, light to moderate south-southwesterly winds will transport a plume of Saharan dust into the region, increasing particle concentrations and leading to Moderate AQI levels across the state. Thursday and Friday, light southerly winds will continue to bring Saharan dust into Louisiana. In addition, an upper-level ridge of high pressure strengthening over the region will reduce atmospheric mixing and produce mostly sunny skies, enhancing the formation of ground-level ozone. As a result, AQI levels will remain Moderate statewide on both days.
