Forecast Discussion: Wednesday, an upper-level ridge of high pressure will produce a strong temperature inversion over the Sacramento region, reducing mixing and trapping pollutants near the surface. In addition, calm winds throughout the day will limit pollutant dispersion. These conditions will lead to high-Moderate particle levels. Thanksgiving Day, the upper-level ridge will begin to weaken, enhancing atmospheric mixing. However, light winds will continue to limit dispersion, and pollutant carryover from previous days will be high. As a result, particle levels will remain high-Moderate. Friday, calm morning winds will continue to inhibit pollutant dispersion in the Sacramento area. However, an upper-level trough of low pressure approaching the region will enhance mixing and generate light onshore winds in the afternoon, helping to disperse pollutants. As a result, particle levels will be Moderate.
