Forecast Discussion: Thursday, April 17: The combination of surface high pressure over the northeastern U.S. and a low-pressure system moving into the Midwest will produce moderate to strong southeasterly winds in Youngstown-Warren. These winds will disperse pollutants in the Mahoning Valley, and cool temperatures will limit ozone production. Therefore, AQI levels will be Good. Friday, April 18: Moderate southerly winds will bring pollutants and humid air into Youngstown-Warren, aiding particle production. As a result, AQI levels will be low-Moderate. Saturday, a low-pressure system will move through northeastern Ohio, enhancing vertical mixing and shifting winds to northerly. These weather conditions will effectively disperse pollutants, yielding Good AQI levels. Sunday and Monday, winds will shift to southerly ahead of an approaching low-pressure system, transporting pollutants and moisture into Youngstown-Warren. As a result, AQI levels will be Moderate on both days. Tuesday, the low-pressure system will move through Ohio and depart to the east, generating moderate northwesterly winds in the Mahoning Valley. These winds will effectively disperse pollutants, lowering AQI levels to Good.
