Forecast Discussion: Monday, March 2: Surface high pressure building eastward into Ohio will produce moderate northwesterly winds, helping to disperse pollutants and bringing a cleaner, drier air mass into the Mahoning Valley. These conditions will reduce particle production, leading to Good AQI levels. Tuesday, March 3: A cold front approaching from the northwest will enhance atmospheric mixing and generate moderate to strong southeasterly winds in Youngstown-Warren, helping to disperse pollutants. Therefore, AQI levels will remain Good. Wednesday and Thursday, moderate west-northwesterly winds behind the departing cold front will effectively disperse pollutants and usher in a cool, clean air mass, leading to Good AQI levels on both days. Friday and Saturday, surface high pressure south of Ohio will cause moderate southwesterly winds to develop, transporting regional pollutants and moisture into the Youngstown-Warren area. These conditions will increase particle production. Therefore, while low pollutant carryover from previous days will keep AQI levels Good on Friday, AQI levels will increase to low-Moderate on Saturday.
