Forecast Discussion: Thursday, May 21: Light to moderate northwesterly winds will disperse pollutants and transport clean air into the Mahoning Valley. Therefore, AQI levels will be Good. Friday, May 22: A weak front will move through northeastern Ohio, generating moderate west-northwesterly winds and enhancing vertical mixing in the atmosphere. These conditions will effectively disperse pollutants in Youngstown-Warren, keeping AQI levels Good. Saturday, as surface high pressure moves over the Ohio River Valley, lighter winds will reduce pollutant dispersion in Youngstown-Warren. As a result, AQI levels will be low-Moderate. Sunday, partly sunny skies and warm temperatures will enhance ozone formation in the Mahoning Valley, and light to moderate southwesterly winds will bring pollutants into the region. Therefore, AQI levels will remain low-Moderate. Monday and Tuesday, mostly cloudy skies will limit ozone formation in Youngstown-Warren; however, southwesterly winds will continue to transport pollutants into the region, keeping AQI levels low-Moderate on both days.
