Forecast Discussion: Wednesday, April 1: Surface high pressure over Ohio will produce light westerly winds that will limit pollutant dispersion in the Mahoning Valley. However, a clean, cool air mass in place will inhibit ozone and particle formation, leading to Good AQI levels. Thursday, April 2: Breezy southwesterly winds ahead of an approaching cold front will bring regional moisture and pollutants into the Youngstown-Warren region. Therefore, despite increasing clouds limiting ozone formation, AQI levels will be low-Moderate. Friday, moderate northerly winds behind the departing cold front will disperse pollutants and bring a clean air mass into northeastern Ohio, lowering AQI levels to Good. Saturday, surface high pressure building over the Midwest will produce moderate west-northwesterly winds, helping to disperse pollutants and continuing to transport clean, cool air into Youngstown-Warren. As a result, AQI levels will remain Good. Sunday and Monday, light south-southwesterly winds will develop ahead of an approaching low-pressure system, reducing pollutant dispersion and gradually transporting a more polluted air mass into the Mahoning Valley. Therefore, despite partly to mostly cloudy skies and cool temperatures limiting ozone formation, AQI levels will be low-Moderate on both days.
