Forecast Discussion: Today, as a low-pressure system approaches from the west, gusty southerly winds ahead of it will bring pollutants into the Rochester area. However, these winds will also help to disperse pollutants, yielding Good AQI levels. Tomorrow, as the low-pressure system moves east and surface high pressure builds over the northern Plains, moderate northwesterly afternoon winds will effectively disperse pollutants in the Rochester area, yielding Good AQI levels. Saturday, surface high pressure over the northern Great Lakes will produce moderate northeasterly winds in the Rochester area, dispersing pollutants and keeping AQI levels Good. Sunday and Monday, as surface high pressure moves east and a low-pressure system develops over the northern Plains, moderate southeasterly winds will bring pollutants into the Rochester area. However, low pollutant carryover from day to day will keep AQI levels Good on both days. Tuesday, moderate southerly winds will transport additional pollutants into Rochester, and mostly sunny skies and warmer temperatures will enhance ozone formation. As a result, AQI levels will be low-Moderate.
