Forecast Discussion: Air quality forecast northern Indiana issued Monday, July 21, 2014 for Tuesday, July 22 - Thursday, July 24. No air quality action day for northwest Indiana for Tuesday with still marginally conducive ozone conditions on Tuesday as high temperatures will be in the upper 80s to lower 90s with mostly sunny conditions. Some debris clouds from a thunderstorm complex Monday night and Tuesday morning across Minnesota/Wisconsin and northwest Illinois will drift across northwest Indiana on Tuesday morning and an increase in wind speeds to 12 to 18 miles per hour by the afternoon will create less than ideal ozone conditions. Not anticipating a lake breeze on Tuesday with the south southwest wind direction increasing to above 10 miles per hour by early afternoon on Tuesday, this will transport the emissions/ozone precursors and highest ozone concentrations northward into Lake Michigan. A cold front will arrive by Wednesday morning in northwest Indiana changing the air mass to a cooler and cleaner one by Wednesday afternoon/evening. Expect good air quality for both ozone and fine particulates on Wednesday and Thursday with the next air quality forecat update on Thursday.
