Forecast Discussion: Air quality forecast northern Indiana issued Thursday, August 21, 2014. Models are in better agreement with forecasting complexes of thunderstorms from southwestern Wisconsin across northern Illinois/Indiana late tonight and into Friday morning. Atmosphere looks to become rather unstable across northern Illinois/Indiana especially by Thursday night into early Friday morning. Conditions for ozone are still forecast to become more favorable for the weekend and Monday at least for the southern part of the Lake Michigan area as warm front moves north into Wisconsin/Michigan. Ozone forecast still dependent on location of warm front which will also be the focus for some additional isolated storms during the weekend especially north half of the Lake Michigan Region. NOAA/NCEP forecast has warm front across the Indiana/Michigan border to near Chicago into southern Wisconsin by Thursday evening moving to east central Wisconsin/central Michigan by Saturday morning. Ozone will generally remain in the good range during the forecast period Thursday and Friday with fine particulates in the moderate range on Thursday except for Fort Wayne region and in the good range by Friday. The next air quality forecast update will be on Friday.
