Forecast Discussion: Saturday, cloud cover will inhibit ozone formation over much of Louisiana, and widespread thunderstorms will enhance mixing in the lower levels of the atmosphere. However, moderate southwesterly winds will transport smoke from the Gulf into Louisiana, increasing particle levels and leading to Moderate AQI levels throughout the state. Sunday, light southerly winds will reduce pollutant dispersion and bring additional smoke into Louisiana. Furthermore, partly to mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures will enhance ozone formation. These conditions will result in Moderate AQI levels statewide. Monday, moderate easterly winds ahead of an approaching low-pressure system will help to disperse pollutants. However, pollutant carryover from the weekend will lead to low-Moderate AQI levels in most cities.
