Forecast Discussion: Labor Day, calm winds during the morning hours will reduce pollutant dispersion. As light to moderate northwesterly winds develop during the afternoon, pollutant dispersion will increase; however, these winds will also gradually transport smoke from wildfires in northern California into the Sacramento Valley, enhancing ozone production. In addition, hot, sunny conditions will enhance ozone formation. As a result, ozone levels will be low-Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. Tuesday, sunny, warm conditions will persist, continuing to enhance ozone formation in the Sacramento region; however, moderate onshore winds will help disperse pollutants. As a result, ozone levels will be low-Moderate. Wednesday, lighter winds will reduce pollutant dispersion in the Sacramento region. In addition, sunny skies and temperatures in the upper-80s will continue to support ozone formation, leading to Moderate ozone levels.
