Forecast Discussion: Tuesday, moderate onshore winds will help to disperse pollutants in the Sacramento region; however, these winds will also transport smoke from wildfires in northern California into the Sacramento Valley, enhancing ozone production. In addition, sunny skies and temperatures in the low-90s will increase ozone formation. As a result, ozone levels will be Moderate. Wednesday, lighter winds will reduce pollutant dispersion in the Sacramento region, and mostly sunny skies and lingering smoke will continue to enhance ozone production. However, an upper-level trough of low pressure will move over northern California later in the day, enhancing atmospheric mixing and helping to disperse pollutants. As a result, ozone levels will be low-Moderate. Thursday, the upper-level trough over northern California will continue to enhance atmospheric mixing in Sacramento, helping to disperse pollutants. However, sunny skies will enhance ozone formation, and light winds at the surface will reduce pollutant dispersion. Therefore, ozone levels will remain low-Moderate.
