Forecast Discussion: Friday, August 28th – Air quality should continue to improve today and most of the weekend as a large cold front passes through the region. Increasing SW winds and good daytime ventilation will help to disperse the wildfire smoke, and increased cloud cover will help to reduce the overnight inversions. Saturday will see a significant wind event, with strong and gusty winds for most of the day which will probably produce periods of blowing dust and transport of smoke from any upwind wildfires. Sunday and Monday should bring continued cloud cover with a chance of showers and sometimes breezy SW winds. Overall air quality should be in the AQI-Moderate range Friday, but may reach the AQI-Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range Friday night and Saturday morning before the wind and dust event Saturday, with the AQI-Moderate range possible on Sunday and Monday if the wildfire activity doesn’t increase too much. /MCKAY
