Forecast Discussion: Today, breezy northwesterly winds behind a departing low-pressure system will effectively disperse pollutants and transport cleaner, drier air into southeastern Minnesota. Therefore, AQI levels will be Good. Tomorrow, surface high pressure building into the western Great Lakes will cause winds to diminish and shift to southerly in Rochester. These conditions will reduce pollutant dispersion. However, pollutant carryover from Thursday will be low, keeping AQI levels Good. Saturday and Sunday, a low-pressure system will move through southern Minnesota and depart eastward, enhancing atmospheric mixing and generating moderate north-northwesterly winds. These weather conditions will effectively disperse pollutants, yielding Good AQI levels on both days. Monday and Tuesday, moderate southwesterly winds will transport some regional pollutants into Rochester. However, low pollutant carryover from day to day will keep AQI levels Good on both days.
