Forecast Discussion: The sun will return on Friday for a pleasant late Spring day, with low humidity and breezy northwesterly winds. A north-to-south moving “back door” cold front will move through the Philadelphia metropolitan area in the late afternoon, brining an increase in cloud cover and the chance for an isolated rain shower. Strong late May sun will allow ozone to rebound from Thursday’s very low levels, but ample atmospheric ventilation will keep concentrations in the upper Good range. Particles are low regionally and upwind, and with a relatively dry air mass in place, Good conditions will continue on Friday. **Extended Forecast: It will be cool start to the Memorial Day weekend on Saturday as a Canadian air mass builds into the Mid-Atlantic region behind Friday’s cold front. Below average temperatures and low atmospheric humidity will allow Good air quality to continue. A warming trend will begin on Sunday. Ozone will reach into the Moderate range, while particles will be slower to respond and remain in the upper Good range. -Huff
