Forecast Discussion: The sun will return on Wednesday, but it will be very cold and blustery. Low atmospheric humidity and gusty northwesterly winds for much of the day will keep air quality in the Good range. **Extended Forecast: A fast-moving Clipper system will approach the Philadelphia metropolitan area from the west on Thursday, increasing cloud cover in the afternoon and evening. Ahead of this next storm system, surface high pressure will move overhead, causing winds to stagnate in the morning. The arrival of warm air aloft with a coating of snow on the ground will promote the formation of a surface inversion that will trap pollutants. The combination of stagnating winds and a surface inversion will push particle concentrations back into the Moderate range. The Clipper system will bring an additional dusting of snow to the region overnight Friday. During the day, cold and dry air will filter into the Mid-Atlantic, with gradual clearing in the afternoon. Breezy northwesterly winds will ventilate the atmosphere and return air quality to the Good range. -Huff
